www.crutchfield.com for the sizes of the speakers.(I dont know anything about hatches, so they wil....)
As far as amps go, its hard fot me to say because the amp I have is sorta hard to find/buy. But I would recommend like Fosgate amps/ speakers, Jl Audio amps/speakers, coustic amps are really cheap but preform pretty good(I had four different ones and loved them, no probs....) Zapco makes really good amps but the newer models Im not huge on.
Also I need to know if he wants to spend $150 on a pair of subs or $300, same with the amps,etc..... But Im more than glad to help out....

the speakers in the door are either 5.25" or 6.5" I know it sounds weird, but I have heard both of those answers. Crutchfield will say 6.5", I have 5.25" in mine. Just have to get in there an mesaure it.
As for the subs and amp, everyone has their own opinion on different brands. Me, I love MTX. Nice, deep, clean, loud bass. JL and Fosgate are good brands also. Also one of my friends has some 12" bazooka's in his car and they are loud and clean. Just have to find which ones he likes. Also it matters a lot on how they are hooked up and the box.

I havent messed wiht Mtx much so I dont know much about them, but pretty much all those are good brands. If you could get your hands on some JLW0's for about $100 each, then Id say thats the way to go in my opinion. Oh yeah and Polk makes great speakers for the price also, both mids and subs. And alot of it depends on the place your getting it all from. If you have a reputable stereo place in your town and they happen to carry say Kicker and Fosgate, then I would go there, instead of buying online and getting JL or something like that, beacause they usually warranty their stuff alot longer and take care of you also..

yea, kicker is pretty good. Just stay away from Pioneer man, i hate them. Blew 3 of them with just a 300 watt amp. I agree, you can pick up some JLW0's pretty cheap and hooked up correctly you can get 140+db out of them.

Dude, I have had 2 friends that used MTX, and I loved both of their systems, it was so freakin deep. The only other brand that I know that, going by their spec sheets, can hit as low as an MTX is Infinity.

I had friends with MTX in trucks..... And the JL 10W3's were hitting deeper than the MTX's so it depends on the car, etc..... My JL's hit so deep in the sealed box that I wouldnt even want them any deeper( They hurt my ears so bad already)
Whick MTX?

dude, there is nothing wrong with pioneer. you have to frickin install it right and take care of it. my 1 pioneer IMPP (old skool version) is the best deal for the money right now. you can't beat it for a brand new sub under warranty for that price. the sound quality is outstanding and it hits deep and hard. it can also handle more power than pioneer says and be fine. just don't be an idiot when installing and almost any decent brand will do fine.

Well the reason I don't like Pioneer is from personal experience, but they weren't the IMPP, just normal pioneer, and even with them installed right they wouldn't last long at all.
The MTX that my friends have, my friend with a 97 prelude has 2 of the lowest model of MTX and my friend with a 94 Ford F150 has I think a MTX 4000, they both hit hard and deep. My JL's didn't hit as deep as these, but they were just w0's and one had the crap beat out of it before I got it.

I agree with the Pioneer thing, the stuff I happened to buy didnt treat me to good, so I didnt go back to it thats all, just a personal thing.
Also my friend has 3 10W0's with 550 watts going to them off an Arc amp and I have 4 10W3's with 1100 watts going to them and I hit twice as hard as him and twice as deep, I pick up so many bass notes that that W0's don't and my frineds 4 mtx 4000's werent keeping up either and they were off a 1000 watt PPI, so that was my experience with that.

Welp... I personally like my Volfenhag Subs they sound great you can get em cheap and they are fricken durable. I had a site somewhere but I can't find it just search MSN for Volfenhag subs and on one site they are only 59.99 each and than you can get a good box on there pretty cheap too. I have a cyclone 1200 watt amp and it sounds good has built in crossover and I only paid 129.99 locally but I hear that Kicker, R. Fosgate, Sound Storm, Alpine, and I think JBL amps are pretty good. I agree though with whomever said it stay away from Pioneer. I have used a few sets of speakers and well lets just say my sony exsplodes lasted longer and exsplodes are known to Explode.... JL all around probably has the best subs though. I like Audiobahn but lack the money to buy them. Also Alpine Type Rs are rather good and little cheaper than Audiobahn subs. But if you have hella money and room go for the JL W7 cause it kicks ass.

it all depends on the enclosure and amp. all decent subs are really about the same as far as being able to pick up certain frequencies. anything below 20hz is beyond human hearing anyways and most subs go to 20hz, so no sub is going to "hit lower" than another sub. it all depends on how you tune the box.

ahh...audiobahn, i can't stand them either. I have not yet heard a decent system with audiobahns, sure they can hit hard, but i see nothing good if it hits hard and sounds like crap. I have not heard an audiobahn system that doesn't sound like crap yet. Where I am from, they are freakin cheap, so everyone had them.

AudioBahn=Eclipse, they hit hard, but their isnt enough sound coming out, my 2 eclipse moved my soda cans like crazy but the sound didnt travel down the block like the W3's do, same price also.
