Clutch Trouble

Good evening to all, ive got a 96 626 that is having some problems with the clutch pedal. it has been sitting for about 6 months now. the thing is that the pedal will not return to its normal position after pushing the pedal down. when pushing it down the clutch disengages but the pedal doesnt return. when i pull the pedal back to the original spot the clutch will engage. also after pressing the clutch the trans will not shift.
does anyone have any advice on what the problem could be? im not extremely good with cars but can work around them, ive been thinking that what ever fluid that brings the pedal to the original position is either out or there is a leak. if any one knows what the problem is and if it could be an easy fix, id love to hear from you.
thanks in advance
