i was wondering your guys thoughts on reusing a honda 3 layer metal head gasket. its the y8 head gasket. i normally would just get a new one but this one was on the car for about 2 miles of driving and well i dont want to get into what happened as its depressing but... i got another y8 head just got it back from the machine shop and was going to put it back together tomorrow... im using arp head studs so it gets tourqued to 60 ftlbs anyway and i always use copper spray as well. i know they crush when you put them on but i figured with the spray and the added tourque you use with the studs it wouldnt matter to much.... well let me know your thoughts on it. i may just get a new one if i can scrounge up the funds...

I've reused metal ones over and over a few times. The one in my wagon will be on it's 4th reuse this next time. If I was running boost or something like that I wouldn't, but I've never had a problem with reusing them if they are in good condition. Just my 2cents

Its up to you man. I don't reuse head gaskets because I don't like taking the chance of having to redo all the work because the head gasket is no good. Once they are compressed, they are done. I have reused other gaskets before that your not supposed to, but a head gasket is one I don't even attempt.

It's like 3/8 NPT I think. I know pipe fittings go there, because you can Tee off that area for a turbo feed.

I wasn't saying it couldn't be done, but I don't suggest taking the chance. Head gaskets are one of the easiest things to blow, why take the chance of using a weak gasket?

because im super awesome and my civic would never do a thing like that to me... im just joking of course. it was lack of money and a time limit to get it together, i wasnt throwing it in your face or anything like that, of course i would rather have a fresh gasket. it was more of an update on what transpired. i would tell the whole story but it would be to long and depressing, but i did get the car together at about 4:30 and got to the track at about 5:30 and ended up winning for once so that was sweet
