What is the trick to remove the cup holder assembly that is mounted to the side of the front passenger seat in a 98 venture?

This is one thing I ignored completely when I had my 2000 Silo.
The kids stepped on them in short order and the end result was "to hell with them" (the cup holders).
Try a hammer and big screwdriver.
These cup holders in the three vans was (one) of the dumbest ideas ever put to use.
I bought and used a floor type coin/coffee cup/junk container in mine and it worked perfectly.
I know that doesn't help but "that's my story and I'm stickin' to it".

I would like to put my 2 cents in also. Those cup holders are the biggest piece of junk I have ever seen installed in a vehicle. They have never worked from day one. Like the previous guy said, my kids stepped on them and broke a couple of them. That is the best thing to do. Rip them off and mail them back to GM so they can recycle them for another car. Go to Wal-Mart and buy a center console with cup holders and put it between the front seats. Thats how I feel about that. Not trying to sound rude, but is that the best they can come up with? Anyways, good luck.
