Problem with acceleration.

Okay, so my '97 Ford Ranger is lurching a little as it accelerates. What causes this? I've only just noticed this happening. Is it something to do with the gears? What needs to be fixed and how much would it cost, about?

Plug wires can cause a car to hesitate when you accelerate. If they haven't been changed in a long time this could be the problem
