2003 Ford Focus- Stalls when idle, rough idle

Hello!

I have a 2003 Ford Focus with a 2.0L split port engine. It has an automatic transmission and 85,000 miles. I got this car from a deceased family member and the engine line was on when I got it. Before I got it, the transmission was replaced and a family member said that is when the check engine light came on. We all figure it was a wire somewhere because there were no other problems with the car. I got it about 6 months ago. About a month ago, it stalled for the first time. It is only when Im sitting idle at a red light or in park waiting. It will stall in about 2-5 minutes after I stop. When I start the car, it starts really loud! It sounds like the RPM's are going way too high. I wanted to check for this but I don't have one in the dash. I know its not supposed to do that though. When it is running, if I look under the hood, I can hear a air sound like a hole in a air line maybe?

this area is where the sound is coming from.

just another view

I don't know enough about cars to determine where things are located. I have researched these problems online and run into a lot of the same answers. The vacuum is the main answer, a valve, a sensor, so on....

Can anyone please help me determine what to do. I know the area where the sound is coming from but if someone could point me in the correct direction, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
Shawna

Shawna, more than likely the hose for the pcv valve is colapsed or has a big hole in it. If you look on the back side of the intake manifold there should be a rubber hose that goes to the pcv on the valve cover. The intake manifold is located on the back side of the motor closest to the drivers compartment of the vehicle. Hope this helps.

this is the pcv valve correct? I located the manifold on the back and if I follow the hose I'm pointing to all the way to the back, where it connects, there is an indention, as if it has collapsed. The indention is on the right side (if sitting in the car). I just want to know if Im in the right direction before I replace anything. I am a DIY kinda woman LOL. I tried to take a picture of the indent but I couldn't get enough light. Thank you so much!!!

Ok sorry i cant view your pics for some reason but it sounds like you found the right one. the colapsed portion is usually right on the elbow of where it goes into the intake.

You were right!!! That sure was the problem! I took my car to Ford and told them what I think the problem is and they checked it. They confirmed that there was a big hole where the elbow is. It was a really big hole. Thank you so much for your help! I know where to go from now on! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
