You easily could have a vacuum leak. take it to a mechanic.

Could be a wacked Throttle Position sensor (replace). Or a clogged Air Intake Control solenoid (clean it) if surging & dieing when shifting into reverse & forward. If while idling, Vac sys. leak. Pick up a manual for your truck, maybe read it while your kickin back listening to your stereo (check out the remastered "Beatles Collection"). I also haven't heard too many cars w/ "great sound", and no P/U Trucks. This may sound strange but here goes: I like listening to my engine pulling a grade loaded w/ 40 bags of cement & towing a mixer w/ seemingly little effort. Maybe that's just me. Anyway, getting it scanned for stored Continuous Memory error codes could prove useful in narrowing down the prob. Pep Boy's will do it for free if your call & make an appointment.
