hey everyone the other day i noticed that my headlights and gauge lights and DIC were dimming kind of randomly. i figured it was just low voltage from playing my subs too much, so i turned the stereo off for a while. the problem persisted. i tried revving up to generate more power, but it just made them dim more during revving. the battery is just over a year old and the alternater is less than 3 months old. i have no idea what the problem is and i would appreciate some help

ps. i have a capacitor for my amps, it is a crappy one, so do you think that could be causing the problem?

first i would check the battery terminals...make sure they are clean and tight. if that checks out...then start checking wires. was the alternator reman...or new?

the battery terminals and connectors look fine, although i havent checked the ground on the frame yet. and as for the alternator its new but its a custom built one,so theres a chance something may have failed (regulator?) im gunna swap it out with my stock alt and see if that solves the problem. but still in the meantime any other suggestions would be good.

i should also note that i noticed today that as i accelerated from a stop at at about 1500rpm or so the engine itself seemed to surge...not very much tho...i dont know if this is the cause or an effect of the electrical problem or what...

common issue on these cars is a bad ignition switch harness. The contacts get weak and start to arc, causing all sorts of odd electrical gremlins.

I had the exact same problem when the regulator went out. New alternator solved the problem for me.
