Rear Window Channel Guides/Rollers

One of the most common, obnoxious problems with our Roadmasters is the rear roll-down window guides. The factory put oblong plastic guides in the channels below the window which break all too often. I bought some replacements from GM a few years ago to replace one broken one on each side of my car. The replacments are round and much sturdier than the oblong factory ones. It takes about 2 1/2 hours and a lot of cussing because the access holes are not quite big enough to do each door. Part number of the improved rollers is GM # 9666748.
The purpose of this posting is to urge you to replace both plastic guides even if only one is broken. I didn't when I did the job a few years ago, and yesterday, on the passenger's side, the other guide broke. Today I disassembled the door panel and put the round guide in place of the broken one.
One more tip. When replacing the rear of the two guides, drill out the poprivits that hold the armrest support on the door panel. It allows access so you don't end up with scraped forearms like I did the first time.
Also, the ends of the guide rail are crimped to prevent inserting the new rollers so you have to pry the bottom of the channel edge to remove the broken guide and insert the roller.
The trim retainers for the door panel, which you will likely need, are GM part # 10161510. The price of the rollers is nominal, but the price of the trim retainers will knock your socks off.
Good luck!!

Very good advice. I replaced both of mine when I did the job a few years back and I'm glad I did. Those newer, rounder guides are an improvement over the original design.
