Enough with the bits of bodies- how about an engine?

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb112/andrejmiller/2512758478_fa5d3bd88a_b-1.jpg

Not a difficult one- bonus points if you can say what the engine is (this car was available with at least two).

Easy.

Lotus Europa
Looks like a Special but might be just a regular Twin Cam (Big Valve).
Can't quite recall if the Special only came with Del Ortos/Webers or if early cars were fitted with the Strombergs as well.

If I had to say one or the other, then I'll go with it being an earlier regular Twin Cam

Engine is Lotus-Ford Twin Cam.
Essentially a Ford 116E block with Lotus Designed Head.

MPWR
09-17-2009, 03:17 PM
That would be right. Doesn't surprise me that you would know it. ;)

drunken monkey
09-17-2009, 04:00 PM
it just so happens that I am looking at a pile of owner's manuals and parts catalogues (pdf) for the Europa.

Anyway.
Have a go at this one.

drunken monkey
09-18-2009, 11:45 AM
nope.

Also, to save replying to any/all guesses, I'll wait for five guesses or until someone get's it right before replying.
i.e if I don't reply, it aint right.

if you get this right, you'll know it's right so if you are 100% sure you can post a new one before confirmation.

Finally, there are actually two possible answers to this one as the internals got updated and the car assigned a new model number while the exterior stayed the same.

I would say MG B

Finally, there are actually two possible answers to this one as the internals got updated and the car assigned a new model number while the exterior stayed the same.

It's a Bristol 410.

I believe this is the only possible answer: the 410's headlamps are recessed into the wings as in the picture, but on the 409 they are not recessed, they are level with the indicators. The 410's spotlights are recessed into the grille again as in the picture, while on the 411 they stick out a bit.

Please post another one: I don't seem to be able to upload pictures.

Bristol 410 it is.

And actually, yes, I stand corrected.
Never even noticed the different depths of the front lamps.
Apologies.

I'll post another one on a related theme.

it's quite an icon so shouldn't be too difficult.

My guess would be Pietro Frua had a hand in the body design of both the Bristol 410 and P1800.
