Ok, guys My Taurus (24dohc) when at idle surges @ least this is when you notice it the most. If you turn on air or heat it is more prevalent. I've replace the idle control valve, MAF and the sensor control to mass air flow, cleaned and checked all spark plugs, cleaned out cam, checked for vac leakes, replaced upper and lower o2 sensors all to no avail. I was driving down the high way the other day and noticed a surge in the rpm and then it settled back down. Didn't affect the speed though since It was on curise. So now what. What am I missing. I finally got the check engine light to come back on after resetting it when I basically floored it on the hwy. The check engine light started blinking radically then stayed on. What is my problem.
My codes are P0302 and 305 # 2 and # 5 cylinder misfire. Given the list of possible causes do you think it is my coil??

Coil and/or spark plugs wires seem like a good place to start. Do cylinders 2 and 5 share one coil?

Dont jump on that coil just yet!
The firing order on that puppy is 142536 The coil pack is 4/3 6/2 5/1
(GM would call it 123456) remember that ford starts in the back of the engine on the passanger side and counts left to right 123. then the front bank is left to right 456
it seams interesting that it is "saying" that the two center pistons are misfireing?????
good luck

Well, I figured out what was wrong. The mechanic hooked up the spark plugs wrong to the coil pack he had it has 4,5,6 and not 5,4,6.
