Year?

It could mean a variety of possible faults like: loose or damaged wiring either at the switch, the wiper motor or even a break in the wiring where it passes through the protective cover at the top of the hatch. A bad ground connection can do this too.

To get at the connecting wiring you have to remove the inner hatch panel.

It is most likely the wiper motor assembly these van are know for them going bad. Very easy to replace.

Camry 93,

I have the same problem with my 2000 Montana, but I have not had the time to look at it.
I had the time last night, and see that I have a constant 12VDC on one pair, and a switched 12VDC on the other pair feeding the motor assembly.

So, I guess the motor is shot.

I can see how to remove the motor, but how does it uncouple from the exterior side where the wiper arm is attached?

I cannot see any way to remove a bolt or something in order to take the arm off.

I was actually just going to pull the motor apart first, and see if it is just all corroded or such.
It is usually the case, but maybe you can shed some more light on this.

Really, I don't need the rear wiper, but it does come in handy in the gruesome slushy winter.

Let me know any secrets if you have any.

Cheers,

Noam Zane

Flip up the trim cap that's covering the nut. If you don't know it's there, it's easy to miss. Hope that helps.

Does the wiper stop at one side or in the middle of the stroke? If it stops at one side, try moving the wiper by hand to see if it starts up again. The gear that moves the wiper is made of plastic and the teeth on the gear can break quite easily. I had to change the entire wiper motor module because I could not find anywhere that sells just the gear.

Markqc,

Thanks for the information.

My wiper is completely dead.
I am thinking that the brushes are dead, or filled with water/corrosion.
I was hoping just to pull it out, and do a quick inspection,.

No pics, but is quite easy.
Take down the rear hatch cover trim, (2 screws)
Remove the wiper arm from the exterior, remove the flange nut, and 2 bolts on the inside.
Unplug the electrical connector, and that is it.

Ok people,

I got into the job last night, removed the wiper arm and motor assy so that I could do a bench test.
It looked great inside, the brushes were good, and all was clean.
The motor has brushes that are on the base of the mounting plate.

There is a printed circuit board, with a connector that will receive the 4-pin mate from the vehicle-side.

After reinstalling the motor, and testing, I have found that the motor was not the problem, but the continuity from the printed circuit board to the motor itself.

If you wiggle the plastic case that covers the PCB, the motor will work.
I found that by just attaching a bungee cord around the black plastic box, back to the frame was good enough to maintain continuity.

Yes, I could probably take it apart again, and fix the problem right, but I really don't have all of the time in the world right now.

Just letting you guys know that the motor (MAY) not be the actual issue.

Hope that this helps...
