1997 eclipse gs engine swap

so their is a loud knocking coming from my engine, 1997 eclipse gs 2.0.. my mechanic said to just get a new engine but im not sure what to decide on. if anyone has any suggestions or if anybody knows any engines i can stick in there, it would be appreciated. thanks
