96 tahoe weird reverse

Hey i just bought a 96 tahoe 4x4 everything runs perfect on it the only thing that is weird is the reverse the guy that sold it to me is a mechanic and said that it was fine OK what it does is when you put it in park any time and put it in reverse i have to rev the engine and then it goes into reverse it goes kinda ruff but it goes thn drivs fine im not sure why and its kinda weird any have any info thanks

this MAY BE AN ADJUSTMENT...place the shift lever in drive then reverse,,see if it goes in better,,,rather than park to reverse..if so this is a shift adjustment or even the cable needs replacing..
