Move away from air shocks?

Has anyone found a non air-shock that works on the 01 Lesabre? I never thought renewing the suspension could be so expensive on a vehicle. I mean, I got a set of four shocks for my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for $100 online. Granted they are KYB factory replacements but crimony, the place I get tires from wants in the neighborhood of $750 to do all four. Thoughts?

Your LeSabre has struts front/rear, unlike shocks like on some vehicles. (Different animal) Average labor price to install one strut is $75.00 X 4 = $300.00 plus the cost of the struts & alignment. Do some shopping, the range should be $500-$950!

Well, I found struts and air shocks online for $232.00 (free shipping). The front struts (Monroe Sensatrac) were $75 a piece and the rear (Monroe air shocks) were $80 for the pair. This is the exact equipment the tire shop was willingly prepared to sell me for almost twice the amount. And, I have a friend at work who has a friend who owns a shop and will put them on for a song. You gotta love friends... So for me, worst case I think is going to be in the neighborhood of $350 max for the whole job.
Cheaper solutions are out there, we just have to look for them.

Good shopping! I recently found a set of rear SenseTrac air assist struts for my PA online for 40-bucks each (warehouse closeout) and installed them myself. In addition, I had a 20-buck coupon for a 4-wheel computerized alignment (50-bucks total); so yes it pays to shop & compare prices.

May I ask how challenging the install was to do yourself? I'm fairly mechanically inclined (just did the starter and transmission filter myself last weekend - to give you an idea). My main concern is having the right tools.
