Rough idle before AC stops working

I noticed a rough dle for about a week, then smelled burning and finally my AC stopped working. I am thinking it might be my AC switch on the dashboard. ANy thoughts anyone? It is a 2001 Yukon XL 5.3 1500. Thanks in advance.
