Lifter tick

For thoes of you out there with that annoying lifter tick. I might have found a temporary solution to this problem. I understand that changing old will help with the tick for only a while but it comes back after a few miles or so. I the solution is to add a can of engine restorer to your oil each oil change. I just tried it and I have not heard the lifter tick for some time. I'll keep adding this after every oil change until Ican pull the factor lifters out. Try it, the only thing you will loose is that lifter tick and $8.00:).

Get 99 lifters and get rid of the problem all together. Most 3S's have lifter tick which is nothing really as my SL does. However my VR-4 has remained tick free thus far. Trans fluid is also known to help in small portions mixed with motor oill.

using a higher viscocity oil is said to help as well. Ive used mobil1 15-50 since i got my vr4 4 years ago and never had any tick. I changed to 99 lifters anyway for peace of mind.

We have a new oil supply company. The prices are RIDICULOUS!!
It's awesome... not that I ever change my oil, but it's good to know I'm not paying a lot when I eventually get around to it. :p

Yeah, with me not working I haven't been putting a ton of miles on my car lately, but I can do an oil change, including filter for under $20. People using Royal Purple cant even get 3 quarts of oil for $20.

No, you're overpaying for an oil that isn't fully synthetic. Royal Purple is a joke. I am currently running RP 10w40 in the Stealth. I have lifter tick and even worse the oil thins after hard driving.
The fact of the matter is that you can't say, I added this and it fixed the problem or I changed to X brand of oil and my lifter tick is gone. There are too many variables to say that was the definitive. It's not a scientific result. I use RP and my lifter tick isn't gone. As for the engine restore, of course it went away, you added the oil equivalent of tree sap. I'm of a firm believer that the only thing that belongs in your crank case is oil. Things like engine restore aren't good to be putting in your engine. Also, keep in mind that you're treating a symptom not the cause.
If you want a good synthetic for the same price as RP then you should get some Redline.
