Auxiliary power AWOL

After searching for a few months I found what I was looking for. A 2007 at least (wanted the 3.9l, 17" wheels etc.) RWB with the trim level and options I preferred.
I'm generally satisfied however there's one niggling thing that I'm surprised I missed when I inspected the vehicle prior to purchase.
There's no auxiliary power outlet on the dash. There's one buried in a cubbyhole back by the liftgate but nothing where one might want to plug in a phone charger or GPS unit. Where is the outlet that's installed with the smoker package positioned? Is there an unused lead in the wiring harness ready for use?
In this day and age what kind of thinking would consider omitting the dashboard auxiliary power outlet a viable cost cutting solution?
Others of you may have had the same problem and I'm interested in hearing your solutions.

UPDATE UPDATE!!
Last evening while exiting my new Montana I happened to drop a candy on the floor of the vehicle. Rather than leave it there to become one with the carpet I attempted recovery. While bent over double, head between the seats, I spied a hidden recess underneath the CD storage drawer. What's this? What could it be?
Why, it's the elusive auxiliary power source in its secret hiding spot. Smack dab in the center of the console, one half an inch off the floor. Very handy location if I say so myself.
Mystery solved.
