Dont you love it when a mod closes a thread or trys to tell you that your wrong about something, yet there post sounds so dumb it isnt even funny. Like in Politics, investments, and currant affairs, I made a post asking for people to tell me what their president did lately that has had a major effect on the country or the world and the thread gets closed with this post>Thread closed.

Actions taken by people now will affect the future.
No one in this forum can see the future.

Therefore, no one can say what impact current activites of any individual or group will have on any country or the world in the future.

Here is another one, in Hot or Not, I made the point that the auto news desk was full of f&f2 posts and said>There should be an entertainment section for music, movies, t.v., etc. I know I am not the first person who has said this. The mod came back and told me there is such a place, but when I asked him where he didnt answer me.

If you have a problem with a moderator, take it up with them privately. You are only making your case less attractive by making this a public scene. I will leave this thread open, so that you won't run around opening threads about me now, but it WILL be closed later once you've gotten your issues resolved.

The Current Affairs forum is for discussing current affairs, not baiting a flame war by implying that no country other than yours makes any difference in the world.

And the tv etc forum is in Off Topic, the most logical place it would be. Think about it for a minute.

I think the thread title should be, "not so bright members".

I don't normally get involved in any of these arguments, but as somebody that is only a member on AF, but a moderator on another board, I think I can be less partial.

This whole argument is two-sided.

There are members out there that moderators would love to able to reach out and slap something stupid, these members are so dumb, post the biggest load of dumb crap, yet manage to stay clean enough that you can't get rid of them.
These are the members that ask why there is no "XYZ" forum, which the member would actually find does exist if they just opened their eyes and performed a few more mouse clicks, they would find it does exist.
They are the members that tend to get flamed for stupid statements, but still manage to stay clean enough that the mods can't actually ban them......

On the other side of this coin, there is the moderator.....and I will say all this as a counter argument......
There are some moderators that seem to forget they were once a regualr member, and even as a moderator, they are a member. They seem to think that because they carry the title, you should instantly bow down and pay homage......
There are some moderators that will engage in a debate, but when they realise they are losing the debate, close the thread.....or delete posts that they don't like.....the list carries on.....

Either way, my point is, there are both bad members and there are bad mods.

I agree with what Tangie says, and it is also a matter of respect, if you have a problem with a mod, take it up with the mod in private, not in the middle of the message boards. If you're not satisfied with the answer you get from the mod, or you can't resolve it that way, go to the top.
I am sure Igor and all the mods would much rather you dealt with the whole issue via the PM function, rather than create a thread attacking the mods.

Remember this, without the mods, the message boards won't function!!
Their time and effort which they give freely keeps the boards friendly and clean, so we members can come here and enjoy the boards.

*steps off soap box* Thank you.

You could always use the internet.....there are plenty of informative news websites on the net....
Examples:
General International News:
www.cnn.com

There are forums on iafrica.com too, and since I am in contact with people in South Africa, I can tell you there ain't no bullshit on there.

Why aren't you honest, and just say:
"I am too lazy to spend time reading the news sites to create my own opinions and instead would rather be spoon-fed the information based upon other peoples opinions of the situation"

You see, I am only just recently resident in the USA, and have lived all over the world, so I can tell you a lot, but I would only tell you what I want you to know, so that you will formulate the opinion I want you to have, but if you go on several news sites and read several reports of the same thing, you will be able to form your own opinion on the matter.

You are going to tell me that news agencies dont sometimes put a spin on things. Becase there are a lot of people who would disagree with you(I can name a few on this forum). I like to hear info from someone who is there and sees it, not someone halfway around the world that decides to write a story based on things they heard or were told. You can get your info your way and I will get mine my way. :)

Furthermore, I recommend Google News (http://news.google.com), as it is all compiled from ~4,500 sources by computer algorithms without human input (and arguably, bias. more about that (http://news.google.com/help/about_news_search.html)...)

I removed the second and third posts in that thread; they were made by Americans, and they were off-topic.
I don't know who removed yours. I didn't, or if I did, it was an error, because I had no intention to do so. I'd have to get back to you on that.

I understand that it is not offensive to you, but the way it was presented implies that Americans need not answer for their actions. It is this type of thing that leads to the perception of "American arrogance."

On the other hand, if you were to simply rephrase the post so that it applied equally to everyone (all countries in this case), I would have found no fault. If you would have PM'd me, I'd have told you the same, and probably given you the opportunity to revise your thread in such a way.

In fact, if you go now and start a thread asking anyone from any country to post what they think their country has done to help or hurt the world..., etc. I would have no objection, provided that it's presented fairly to all parties.

Closing threads is a moderators way of stopping a topic getting worse, stopping a flame war, closing a useless or off topic post, closing a post that is out of the forum guidelines etc. Sometimes followed up by a banning if a certain member gets out of hand.

It is not a power trip.

Sometimes a mod does something you don't agree with. Boo hoo hoo. Baby gonna have a cry now? Deal with it. PM the mod and discuss it with him or her, don't bring it into the open so that everyone else gets involved.

Don't post stuff that's inflammatory. That thread was.

Fin.

Do you really know what your president is doing?
You yourself said the media only tells you what they want you to see and think, yet you say you see and hear everyday, what your president is doing?
Perhaps you are only seeing what the media wants you to see and hearing what the media wants you to hear?

Did you not say you can't believe everything you see in the media:

The next thing you were saying is you know everything George W. is doing because you can see it in the media.
So in essence, you were contradicting yourself, one second you are saying you can't believe what they tell you is going on in the media, the next you were saying you know exactly what is going on because the media tells you everything.

If your argument is going to have any substance, you need to not contradict yourself.

Me personally, I don't watch the news channels, I follow the news on the internet so I know what is actually going on without the sensationalism of the TV and radio news presenters added.

Have a nice day  I think you need to go back and look at some of the 1st posts, to see that I was making the suggestion that there shoud be an entertainment section, not just a tv forum. Dont forget even though you might get your info from the internet, it still might not be totally true, someone had to put it on the net, and you never know if that person is bias one way or another. I wasnt contradicting myself, I was just saying it helps to double even triple check your info to make sure it is right, and what better way then by checking with someone that witnessed it first hand.

Somehow, I think you need to post more frequently, since you seem to lose the plot between posts, and forget your own previous arguments and comments.
Everyone has a bias one way or another, including myself I will admit, but before establishing my opinion on something in the news, I read several reports on the matter on various non-affiliated news sites, they will obviously all report it differently and so it is easier to get a better idea of what happened.

Rather than posting here, spend some time travelling, even just reading and researching on the internet, you will find that the world is a big place with a lot of things happening.

AUTOMOTIVEforums.com does not need an entertainment section. We really shouldn't even have a TV section, IMHO. It doesn't get used as much as expected, and it's using up the bandwidth on our servers that are supposed to have been designated for CARS and the like. Consider it a blessing to have COT and the TV forum to discuss things at all.

true ...harsh...but true...... if he wants an entertainment section, then why doesn't he look for an entertainment forum...i remember being on one that was only for the now gone show Dark Angel...ohhh those were the days...but anyways even though i felt the heat off of tangie's post, she does have a point there... the automotive forums are used to talk about cars...the coffee break forum is for our fun and enjoyment where we can kick back, relax, and talk about the everyday experiences in our lives...we also come to know each other in a sense... that's the whole reason as to why we're here in this section of the automotiveforums right now..to talk to people from other parts of the world and form friendships worldwide...not to watch tv:)

Made complete sense.......which was my point when I posted the link to google.com in one of my previous posts with the comment of where to look for entertainment forums.
I guess some people like to have everything tailored to THEIR needs and don't take anything else into consideration.

On an additional note, very well said Tangie:ylsuper

well if you wanted to do that then why didn't you post a thread up in the completely off topic forum? it's called completely off topic for a reason...plus if we made you feel bad then we're sorry we're just sayin that there's no need for an entertainment forum...now if you want to start another forum and somehow link it to af, try taking it up with igor- the head honcho..we're not sayin that you're a bad guy as a matter of fact you might just be mad cool to chill with, but just at this point in AF's progression, i don't think that the whole theme or the direction of AF would be clear if we added an entertainment section right now, but maybe someday in the future there might be enough room to squeeze that section into the servers:)
