This is the first time my car has sort of "failed me" in a way. I came in my driveway yesterday, got out of the car, and stopped to look at what was a streak of tranny fluid down the whole length of my 50 foot driveway. It wasn't a fatal occurence though. I think its just the seal between the tranny/engine or the one between the torque converter, something like that anyway. I think when i was slowing down in the driveway the fluid sloshed forward and escaped through the cracked gasket. So while my cars in the shop i'll have my 1-2 shift problem fixed which is also good. I just hate not having the thing but i have no choice.

You've been burning out on too many emachines keyboards!
Seriously, it sounds like the front pump seal went bye-bye and this was an issue on '83s. What happens is that the drainback hole in the pump is not large enough, and pressure will build between the seal and the pump and eventually, this pressure pushes the seal out and then you get the red driveway.

Haha. I got a call today and they said i need a whole rebuild. I think i did too because (say on the highway) the transmission would shift down and then literally 5 seconds later youd feel it kick into gear which i'm assuming is a bad clutch. They're replacing my torque converter too and giving me heavy duty (what i think are accumulator) springs. The guy said how this tranny is tuned to drive slushy and he's gunna make it shift quicker and all that so i'm really pumped to get it back (which'll be around tuesday).

you should get a NEW torque converter ....the old one will screw up the rebuild in a short time...also flushing of the radiator/tranny lines is needed..

Well this shop specializes in transmissions only so i'm sure they know what they're doing.
