Aluminum foil for 70's F1 chassis?

I just had a thought that maybe, just maybe, one could use either bare metal foil or aluminum foil to cover the chassis (wrinkle-free, of course) to simulate the chassis of 70's F1 cars? Has anyone tried this? I was considering using Alclad's hi-polished aluminum, but I think this may work even better.

Any thoughts? I think this will even work over the rivets that are present on these cars. FYI, it would be for both 1/12 and 1/20 cars.

Thanks!

why you try it and let us know how it goes?

If I decide to do one of these cars as my next project, I will. I was more curious to see if anyone had done it before. If not, no biggie. Just thought I'd ask.

I'm pretty daring...plus, there's really no harm in doing it. Anything can be stripped...:grinyes:

I've used kitchen aluminum foil with a very light coat of dried Micro foil adhesive with some success. The trick with kitchen foil is not to try and stretch it too much. It gets brittle quickly and tears. The stuff looks great for flat sheet aluminum surfaces. Its a real challenge to get around a motorcycle wheel rim. Like DM said, try it. Preferably on something disposable the first time.

It should work fine, and will probably look awesome. I did exactly that with my S7 (which has a body of bare aluminum).

It takes a bit of practice to use BMF like this. Plan on stripping it at least once as you learn, but as you say it is easy. I recommend BMF over kitchen foil with foil glue (I tried both)- the foil glue left brush strokes which were visible through the foil.
