A/C clutch engages and disengages

2002 sport trac the clutch will engage for a couple of seconds and disengage and repeat. I attempted a recharge the meter at the low side port reads approximately 40psi when not engaged and drops to about 30psi when engaged and so on. It would not take a charge. The gap between the clutch is in specs and the a/c sounds fine when it is engaged. Is there any other checks that can be performed? Could it be the high or low pressure switch if so where are they and how can you test them? Thank you for your help.

Welcome to AF!

The low pressure switch at the receiver/dryer. It's on the firewall most likely. Looks like a small propane bottle. Has a connector with 2 wires. Jump the 2 wires and if the clutch stays on either the charge is low or the switch on the receiver/dryer is bad.
