Our 2001 Grand Am will not start on occasion. Sometimes a couple times a week sometimes not for a month. If you turn the key over to the on position and let it sit for about 10 minutes the security light will go off and it will start right up? This is annoying especially if your in a hurry - is there a way to fix this FOR GOOD???

Thanks

try this, remove that plastic cover that goes around the steering wheel where the ignition cylinder is. By the cylinder you will notice small connector with black and yellow wire, disconnected that whille engine is running after that security light will be always on but you should be able to start every time. Keep it disconnected.

Welcome to AF jbbl !!

The proper way to fix this would be to properly diagnose the actual problem and fixing that, not unplugging the security connector.

Also 3100 the ignition switch on these 99+ is on the dash next to the radio.

BUT if you want to try and disable the passlock here is a link, no guarantee it'll solve your issue(s) though.
This thread has the info, just select your make/model- http://64.85.6.118/diagrams/diagrams.asp

This thread from Malibu forum(same as the GA) also covers the disable, but is a very big thread, 10+ pages. A good read either way.
