1985 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4 2.8L V6 - Bad Torque Converter?

I have an 85 S10 Blazer 4x4 2.8L V6 automatic. When I start driving my Blazer, it feels like there is a lag in acceleration. The trany will shift into all 4 gears, but the RPMs are running between 3500 and 4000 in 4th, just trying to maintain 55mph! When I go up hills, the Blazer will start slowing down some even with the gas pushed in. I am planning on pulling the trany out to test it, but I'm just trying to get an idea of what the problem could be. I am thinking it may be a bad torque converter. Any suggestions?

It could be a restricted exhaust/clogged cat. It could be a lot of things. If it has to downshift to make 3,500-4K to maintain road speed, it may not be the trans. If the engine revs freely and reaches high RPMs just starting from a dead stop, there may be a TC problem or trans problem.

How is trans oil condition and level?

Does the engine RPM drop when the trans is placed in gear?

At light acceleration, what MPH does it shift from 1-2? 2-3? 3-OD?

We pulled the trany out today, and found out that it is a rebuilt tranny. To my surpise, there were only three bolts in the bell housing. One could be unscrewed by hand, one had to be unscrewed with a ratchet, and one was hanging out!:eek7: It was basically being held on by the torque converter and the crossmember. The plastic connector that attaches the TV cable to the tranny was only screwed in about halfway! I'm gonna get the tranny tested now to see if it is ok or not. I'm thinking that because of this poor installation, things aren't as bad as I thought. Is there supposed to be a rubber O-ring on the end of the dipstick tube that inserts into the tranny?

Yes there is suppose to be a O-Ring at the end of the dip stick tube that goes into the Trans. Without it. Your fluid would slowly leak out.
