A supercar with an F1 engine?

just came across this at lambopower.

Its got the F1 engine and exhausts(?)

That's one of two test mules for the McLaren F1 that were based on modified Ultima GTR chassis'. The first mule was named "Albert" and featured a large American V8 engine to simulate the torque that was expected to be generated by the F1s engine. The mule in your photo is "Edward" and was the first car fitted with the F1's BMW Motorsports-sourced V12. Once their useful life was completed, both cars were stripped of the valuable parts and sent off to the crusher.

Doug Nye devoted a chapter to these two cars in "Driving Ambition" that was titled "The Heavenly Twins" and you can also read about them in the History section of the UltimaSports website here (http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/Content.aspx?f=history2)

It was an OZ wheel, similar to a style they used for tarmac rallies. The rear is an OZ as well, perhaps an early version of the Mito Modular.

Slightly off topic but since the topic of OZ wheel got brought up are the LM wheels just a single lug version of the crono evolutions by OZ or were the crono evolutions made to emiulate the look of the LM wheels? I guess this might be a chicken or the egg question but i figure it is worth asking. :-)

I want to say that OZ wheel design existed prior to the 1995 F1 GTR, but I am not 100% certain that's a fact. Certainly the wheel sold for street use as the OZ Chrono/Chrono Evolution is a variation on the theme at least.

I can definitely recall some content and info you shared in the past that added value to the forum. In fact, (almost) all posts are useful and further the cause around here. As the moderator I don't get a lot of work, but will usually only lock something if there has been a fairly recent discussion on it. Often times I try to merge the two threads if content is slightly different as I don't want anyone feeling like their contributions aren't worthy.

Anyway, we're not keeping score here, so share whatever you like and ask whatever you like. The other members of the forum will sort it out one way or another. :)

The LM/GTR wheels must be different because they are not generally for sale unless you buy a minimum of 10 car sets. Not very useful but an interesting titbit.
