Hey guys

Thought I would post a thread on my current build to motivate me to finish it. Ive been working on this build for almost 3 years now, and plan to finish before Bathurst this year (started Bathurst 06) Ive seen others builds of this kit and have been inspired to finish (Awesome builds, Alex & Gio)
This has been the biggest challenge (no pun intended) in my modeling career, first time using a resin transkit & stratchbuilding many parts (mainly because of crap molding by MSM)

The Kit, Tamiyas excellant 360 Modena
Transkit, MSM's very average 360 CS transkit (good basepoint)
Misc, AcuStion Enzo photoetched brakes, AcuStion 360 CS Photoetch set
SMS Carbon Fibre

The Car
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/360ChallengeStardale1.jpg

Parts - Resin Seats reshaped to correct shape (look very similar to Tamiya Subaru WRC cars seats), Rear engine cover dosnt fit & is very warped, so I Modified Tamiyas piece

Some Carbon Parts, Engine & 19" CS Wheels

Brakes - AcuStion PE Enzo brakes & Tamiya Enzo Calipers

Modified Dash & door panels
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/Modelpictures007.jpg

Stratchbuilt & modified Exhaust (thanks to Alex - 360 spider for exploded view, very helpful)

Interior Ready for Assembly

Engine Mounted

And thats about it for now, Im currently working on the body getting it ready, still carbon fibre'ing rear view mirrors & airbox. Still lots to do, but i want to finish this build off so hopefully say tuned to see me finish before Bathurst

Thanks heaps for looking

I didn't like the 360 much in any of its incarnations but the more I see them built, the more it grows on me.

Wow, you're putting some serious effort in to it. The thought of cutting up one of Tamiyas perfect bodies like that makes me whince! Looking really good though. I'm sure it will be worth it. Gun metal coloured wheels look good on these.

Looks good! And.... you know where to find reference if you need any. :-)

Thanks guys, yeah cutting into the body was pretty daughting, i hadnt done it before, I made a mess of the petrol cap & have spent hours getting it to look better.
I guess patience is a virtue. I saw a Red one without the stripes with Matte Black wheels, that looked pretty cool, but ive decided to go for Rosso Corsa with the stripes. Should have some more progress pics soon, just working on priming the body
Cheers

Hey Guys

Made some progress lately, heres some updated pics

Mesh Grills
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/Photos3913Large.jpg

Photoetched Wiper blades, came out pretty well
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/Photos3912Large.jpg

Rear Mesh, not perfect, very difficult to cut & file to shape without braking
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/Photos3918Large.jpg

Clearcoated some CF stuff & body panels
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/Photos3917Large.jpg

Body Clear Coated, i misted on a few coats to seal the decals but the clear still managed to wringle them a bit, which is very disapointing
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/da_ashman/Challenge/Photos3916Large.jpg

Hasnt been polished yet, but should look nice

Sorry to hear about the decals. Progress looks good. Maybe once you apply more coats of clear, you won't see the wrinkles. The pe parts came out sweet, also nice job on the rear grill. It looks like a nightmare to do. Also if you don't like the results you can always try it again. I would imagine a couple tries to get a perfect one. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys,
Iv just put a heavy coat of clear to even the surface out abit,
MidMazer - thanks, the grill is the 3rd try, first mesh was way too big & bent far too easily, last try was a smaller mesh circluar & I used my experence from the last 2 tries to get it pretty right. the full mesh sheet was just large enough for 2 tries, so im lucky it turned out well on the first attempt with the second mesh.
More progress pics to come

Im glad it finished, i had quite a few problems with final fit, i ended up chipping some paint off part of the window opening, i ended up with 0.3mm thick of paint, theres a lession folks, sand the primers down around openings.
Let me know what you think

Looks Awesome mate.

I was just wondering in your post above where you got that green cutting mat thing with all the squares on it? Is it from NZ? I would like to get one cause all i use at the moment is newspaper on my desk. Thanks

Thanks Nizmo,
Ive had that mat for years, im pretty sure my mum gave it to me, she got it from a patchworking / quilting store. I would suggest that or a fabric store, craft store. Its about A3 size 300 x 450mm ish. I use a 5m x 1.2m mat at work that also has the grids, so i guess they come in different sizes!!
