1997 3.1 v6 broken cam

Has anyone had the cam break into on a 3.1 v6. This is what happened to our 1997 Chevrolet Malibu. Just wondering if this is a common problem. I did not realize that the tube that the cam lobes are welded onto was hollow. Thanks Dan

no, but the heads are a dime a dozen so you should be able to get replacement from any junkyard from 1997 up to 2002 classic.
