Hey-
I have had a noise similiar to a bad shock from the front left of my s-10, yesterday I decided it had to be a shock, and I had put up with it long enough, (140k miles) so I bought 2 new gabriel front shocks on the way home and went to put them in. I installed them, the OEM were pretty weak, but that didn't fix the "rattle". I put it back up on stands and checked all control arms, ball joints, wheel bearings..etc etc, I grabbed the steering shaft between the gearbox and firewall, and it shook like crazy, about an 1/8 inch back and forth with the noise I had been looking for. My question is I cant seem to find a diagram of this shaft, I know where it connects to the steering box, the connection is good, but as it dissapears into the firewall, I cant see what could be loose...
any help would be greatly appriciated
