Nascar driver Scott Lagasse Jr. took the overall and V8 StockCar V8 GTA class honors on the Daytona Rolex 24 hour course Sunday, August 9. Lagasse was driving the America's Incredible Pizza Monte Carlo out of his own shop.
Lagasse started on the front row of sunday's race along with Henry Gilbert in his powerful C5 Corvette. Gilbert led into turn one at the start and held on until the race was red flagged while safety crew's extricated and transported a Porsche driver from his burning racer. When the race was resumed, Gilbert felt something amiss in the suspension of his racer and slowed his pace for safety's sake. Lagasse was now in control, running consistent laps and held on while Tony Amico and Roger Reuse battled for second place. Amico took the spot in his "Caddy's On the Beach" Monte Carlo over the hard charging Reuse.
Lagasse narrowly lost an opportunity for a win on saturday as well when he spun on the last lap in the international horseshoe of the infield section of the course. Lagasse and Amico had staged a grand battle the entire race, the spin handed the win to the determined Amico.
Gilbert held on for the V8 GT-1 class win over Michael Kern in his FuelClinic.com Camaro while Danny Foster took the V8 SPO win in his ex Juan Pablo Montoya Coors Light/Outback Dodge Charger. Fort Myer's, Florida racer Doug Wilson got his fourth V8 GT2 win in as many starts in the Cherry Cars
BMW M3.
Lagasse, fresh from the NationWide Series wars, was looking to gain additional road course experience and felt the V8 series was a good vehicle for that. The V8 StockCar series is a points championship road racing series for high horsepower StockCars and GT types. The series was competing at Daytona at an event sanctioned by the Central Florida Region SCCA.
