Hey are the GXP hoods (the vented/ram air hoods) the same size as GTP hoods? Could you do a direct swap? (97-03).

they should be the exact same size bolt right up.the gtz had a diffrent hood and a ram air intake thats all.

GTZ?? Did you mean GXP? Never heard of a GTZ...
When was the first year that they started putting V8's in the GXP's?
I love the 97-03 GTX hoods, and if I can find a used one, I wanted to see if I could pop it on. Thanks for the info!
BTW, does anyone know what SE, GT, GTP, and GXP stand for (if anything)?

I don't think the 04+ hoods will fit. In fact I'm sure they wont. 97-03 GXP hoods will fit no issues, or else I think SLP makes an aftermarket hood for the 97-03 GP with "ram air" ducts and to tell you the truth, it looks pretty wicked!

2005. All 2005-2008 GXPs have the 5.3L V8 engine only.

SE = Special Edition <----oxymoron :lol:
GT = Grand Touring (Gran Turismo)
GTP = Grand Touring Prototype
GXP = Grand Experimental Prototype

there is no such thing as a 97-03 grand prix "GXP" however there is a GTX :) and yes...it is a direct bolt up. as mentioned before...to get the full benefit of the GTX hood you will want to get the ram air intake kit.
unless you guys are referring to the prototype 300 GPX. good luck finding one of them hoods.

they no longer make them Tim...they are a discontinued product. American Sports Car Design now handles them and can be found here (http://www.americansportscardesigns.com/grand_prix.shtml) from my understanding Stinger Fiberglass will be taking over American Sports Car Design...so they will be handeling them soon.
By the way...GTX will be going up for sale soon if someone is interested in buying a real one. will give more details when the time comes. looking to get $8500 or somewhere in there.

Ideally, this is the hood I would like to get:
http://www.pfyc.com/pc/GP1002/GPEXT/
If I found a sweet deal on a GTX hood, I'd go for it instead.

Natalie Calls her SE the special edition. I call it the stupid edition. Either way it has been a pretty good car aside from two LIM gaskets, that annoying 3100 lifter tick/piston slap on initial startup, and the rust on the rocker panels.
She's lucky though, one sit in ther interior and you would swear you were in a GTP (untill you hit the gas pedal that is). She's got so many upgrades all thanks to me....
Jerad, why are you selling the gtx? Do you have any pictures?

I chuckled when I saw this. So true. It brought me back to the Business Law class I took in high school in the early '80s. For some reason another student asked the teacher during a discussion in class what the numbers or letters after a car model meant. His response was to the point saying it pretty much boiled down to giving the manufacturer free reign to charge more for every letter or number that they add. The more letters or numbers after a car model, then the higher the vehicle's price. :lol:

It's VERY true! I have a Grand Cherokee for instance; it's amazing what happens when they put "SRT-8" after the name! :lol2:

selling it cuz i just gotta get rid of some toys, not enough room for all of them. i NEVER drive it, obviously cuz its a 2000 with not even 33K on the clock. there are a couple pics of it on my cardomain web page, not very good ones though. car is up at my dads place sitting in the garage under the cover. one of these weekends I'm thinking about driving it down to my place, still havent renewed the plates so i gotta do that first.
as soon as i get some more pics i will be posting them.
edit: here's the only decent pic i have of the car. this is the day i bought it. only thing that looks different right now is window tint, and HID headlights.

well...GTX is paid free and clear. i still owe money on the Impala. my plan is to sell the GTX and SE, trade in the Impala and get a Grand Prix GXP. keep the GT as a winter car.
ultimate plan is to somewhere down the road...throw something like this (http://www.turbo-kits.com/grand_prix_gxp_turbo_kits.html) on the GXP :grinyes:

AHHHH You Got Me Bob!!!!!! :lol2:
We are still doing a few things here and there to her car, when we are all done, I will have her go through and snap some pictures of all the add-ons and upgrades we have done. Natalie likes the 3100 for the milage. That turd gets about 400 miles out of 3/4 of a tank with the way she drives. But I told her if that 3100 ever has an internal mechanical issue, I am going to swap in a 3800.
Jerad, I would take your car in a second if I had 8000 I could spend. But I'm sure you want have any issue getting that for it. If I bought it, I would have to use it to commute with, so I would rack up the miles and that would SUCK to do to that car!

yeah, i figure i wont have to hard of a time selling it when i finally do. its gonna be really hard to watch it go, but its gotta happen some day. i would totally keep it...but my dad keeps bit*ching about how its taking up room in his garage and he wants it gone by winter. def dont have the room at my apartment...so guess its gotta go :crying:

Too bad GM didn't put in the 3400 SFI VIN E engine found in the Alero and Grand Am in 2000 and up SE models instead of the VIN J 3100. The 3400 is a much better engine and more mods available for it. The extra displacement makes a difference in the long run and they still get similar high gas mileage. The best part is GA and Aleros only weigh in at 3000-3200 lbs versus the heavier "W' body design of the Grand Prix.

I often wondered that too Bob.
Would it be beneficial to swap on the 3400 LIM and UIM? Doubtfull she would notice any difference, but I dont know.

What were all the mods you planned on doing and have done? The Milzy PCM? Probably nothing significant but if ported and polished a different story. Then you can get the RSM Racing 62mm throttle body or a 65mm billet type. I'm looking at Phase II/III cylinder heads from Milzy for the Alero. Plus a hot cam. If I can get it into the mid 13s reliably then it is a keeper. Live up to the term rice BURNER! It pisses the Honda and other rice owners off when a GM car blows their door off. We've had so many kills with it not worth mentioning.
