EVAP system problem - kind of long winded

Hi all, first post on this site and welcome all input.
What I have is a 2003 with a 5.9 gas hog.:shakehead
A few months ago, when starting engine from a cold start, the engine would rev itself radically from say 800 to 2000 rpm. Back and forth until I put it in gear and drove it a ways and everything would be fine. She'd run like there was never a problem. It would do this 8 out of 10 times I would start it from a cold start.
Then about 3 weeks ago(it was still doing the above),plus it starts surging at stop lights. From 600 - 800 rpm's while in gear/foot on the brake.
So I figure I better look into what is looking to be a "problem" getting only worse. So I open up the Haynes manual I bought when I got the truck 3 years ago and look in the beginning sections under trouble shooting.
There I find one problem of engine revving which states the problem could be a leaking vacuum line. So with this knowledge I lift the hood looking for vacuum lines. I notice the big one on top of the engine coming from out of the bottom of the Throttle body. So I pull it off and notice that it slipped right off with hardly any force. So I cut an inch off the end and put it back on. Putting it back on I could see/feel that I had a real good connection now. Can't be no more leaks there if there ever was!
So the next day comes around and I'm off to work, go out and start the beast and it act's just like the day I bought it. Fires up to around 1000 rpm than slowly backs it's way down to around 600 and just sits there purring like the beast I once new. It ran perfectly all day long. No surging at stop lights. Now I'm gloating to myself that I fixed this problem relatively easy.:grinyes:
WRONG.
The next day, went out to go to work and BAM, the truck starts acting up like it did before and as an added bonus, halfway to work the check engine light comes on.
Now I had purchased a OBD-ll code reader for a previous pain in the neck vehicle so I say to myself, no problem. So I get home later in the day and whip out my toy/tool to see what reading I get......
And they are............
PO442 and PO455.
Which I look up in my trusty Haynes manual and it say's.
PO442 = EVAP control system small leak detected.
PO455 = EVAP control system Big leak detected.:banghead:

Any thoughts besides the basic check all the hoses for leaks in the system? I have a warranty on the truck but it has a $100 deductible and it would really tick me off IF it is a simple cut the end of the hose off type fix. Then again, they would most certainly do a smoke test on it and get all the leaks, if there's more than one.

Thanks for reading my rant.:runaround:

UPDATE:
Well yesterday the driver's side window stopped working. I can hear the motor running but must be disengaged from the window track.:banghead:
So screw it, I called the dealer to have all fixed for the $100.
The soonest I could get in is next tuesday, which sucks because the window is down.:runaround:

maybe the vacuum line split open. maybe you'll just have to bite the bullet, and buy a new vacuum line for it.

i bet its the vac line that tees off before it gets to the evap can. i had a very big leak in this vac line its hard to see because its kinda under that fuse box on driverside good luck.
