My Toyota MR2 Tire Size Close to Extinction

Cannot find the 195/55/15 Fr and 225/50/15 Rear Tire combination anywhere except with BF Goodrich G-Force Performance Tire.... :frown:

Where am I going to go when this set of tires are exinguished? Do I go to a new 16" or 17" Wheel? If I did that, I'm afraid it will screw the balance of the car. Also, I would like to add 205's on the front, but I have heard that under tight turning circles, the tire rubs up against the inside of quarter panel.

If the stock sizes are becoming not available in the future, where can I find high-performance tires for this car with stock configuration?

Those are the stock 93+ MR2 tire sizes. You'll be FINE with 205 on the stock 15" wheels. Heck I ran 205's on the front of my stock 14" wheels and they came with 195 front. I ran 225's on the rear of them, and the stock 91-92 size was only 205. You'll be fine running 205's in the front, and they should be easier to find too.

Now I'm running 17" wheels with 205 front and 225 rear. I'd run bigger, but I can't fit a much bigger tire of those wheels. I only got these because they were a friends and the price was right: $150 for all four wheels, including tires.

You can probably clear a 215 in the front if you put on different wheel that can mount a 215. I've seen guys running 215 front and 245+ rears with the right wheels.

As far as the factory wheels though, you'll be fine with 205's on the front 15" wheels and 225 on the rear 15" wheels. Most of the 93+ wheels I've seen run 205 fronts and 225 rears.

If you go with a new set of wheels, just make sure to get a staggered set and run staggered tires (tires wider in the rear than in the front). As long as you do that, you shouldn't screw up the balance at all. The balance gets screwed up when you run the same size tires all around (like on a civic, for example). A 7" front wheel is the bare minimum. I'd look into a 7.5" front and a 8.5 to 9" wheel rear. Try to stay at least one inch different on the wheel widths.

If you are looking for new wheels, check out Gordaen's Toyota MR2 Wheel Calculator. It'll help you pick the right offset and size, and help you make sure they fit right. It'll also give you an idea of how far from flush they sit
