Why i like cars, why i hate some...

I like cars if:

the lines on their hood stand out and look powerfull

--the HEADLIGHTS [lights are important to me] have to go w/ the flow... like pagani, honda s2000, BMW..

-- they also have to look powerful, hungry, rarin' to go

--the taillights have to be a powerful pounce of an end, but kind of trailing... the honda s2000 does this best. I love those weird kind of thingys, the Porsche Boxster does this excellent also... I love whatever that bubble or whatever is.. that weird futuristic stuff....

To add to your philosophy, I like some of the same things. A car must have well engineered air scoops and cooling devices, a flowing body design and a perfect touch outback at the tailpipes. I like the 996 Porsches (Turbos and GT series included) Because of thier subtle yet powerful headlights, I just can't get over those tailights though I love em. The body is also flowing and it is perfectly accented by the retractable or fixed wing. Ferrari does a very nice job with thier bodies and tailpipes, their second to Porsche. BMW also has a very aggresive look that most people like, the new 5 series really stands out though.

You have to like the Porsche tailights when you are behind them. :D

porsche taillights are great... but the front lights need to wrap around a bit to be more aggressive... that would be awesome!:cool:

The S2000, like i said, has awesome aggresive lights, with the taillights completeing the look. The corvette has awesome taillights too. I just took a look at the Lexus IS300 in the latest Road & Track, and that car has awesome lights, bringing it up my list a lot. Vents too are importang like you said. so is the positioning of the cockpit, like the forward design of the Pagani Zonda.. I really like the new Elise's aggressive lights!! especially that front vent, that's just an excellent touch!

I also like some cars with a very aggresive looks. It is the one thing that can make or break a car. The ones that have been pulled off nicely are: BMW 5-Series, Lotus 340R, Lamborghini Countach and Porsche Carrera GT. Others that have turned out so well are the new Cadiallac Evoq, Imag? and such, Asstek and PT Cruiser. :eek:

yeah, the Aztek's vents didn't work out, but the new Elise, 340r, mosler MT900, worked out great, the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is GREAT lights and great aggressiveness, but check out these ugly vents above the rear wheels on this thing (http://supercarstats.hypermart.net/car/concept-stats/porsche_stola_s_82.shtml)

I'm actually not very fond of the Mosler, it looks okay but it needs a better engine.

What are you on? The Mosler uses a fantastic engine.

I'm not sure, but I read it has a crappy GM V8.

umm, the LS1 GM V8 isn't exactly crappy, in fact it's the smallest and lightest high powered V8 currently available. The only V8 that can compete with it in size and power output is the Ferrari 3.6L V8, which puts out significantly less torque and costs more than 5 times as much to buy. Plus the LS1 motor has plenty of power left lying around in it, which is easily accessed with some headwork and a camshaft. So what's crappy about it again?

I think the US is pretty unique when it comes to cars. It is like a culture all in it's own. I think each of us grew up thinking about cars and trucks, in one way or another, and each of us finds something appealing about them. Something we find pleasing about a certian design, a curve here, a curve there...

I had a chance to hang out with a guy from Denmark once and he gave me a new perspective on how the automobile has evolved in our society. Where he lived a car or truck was something someone used to get around, and that was it. He found our facination with the auto very interesting. He asked about all kinds of vehicles (what brand/model) and was surprised I knew most of the answers. All you have to do is watch TV most of your life ;) Guess that is where I learned...

As for what kind of vehicle I find appealing:

Trucks I like - Any Toyota, any year. The Tacoma is my favorite, I like the lines and compact shape. It stands out against the American models and even the foreign ones. I also like the engineering and high quality. Something lacking in US vehicles....

Trucks I hate - Just about all of the American models. Growing up in Texas I see way too many of them. They are all cheap and ugly. Another one I don't like much is Isuzu. They seem to cheap, and break down a lot too...

SUVs I like - Any Rover, Toyota's Land Cruiser and 4Runner, and suprisingly, the Isuzu line. I don't like their pickups, but I do like their SUVs. The Vehicross is pretty sweet. I know a guy with a black one with red leather seats and some sweet swampers on it...

SUVs I hate - Any American one. Especially Fords. They are all crap in my opinion...

Cars I like - Any German vehicle, any Italian one, I also like Swedish cars. They know what a vehicle should be like. They know that if you are going to spend the money on a fine auto, a fine auto is what you will get. Art and beauty on wheels. Not to mention fast as hell ;)

Cars I hate - Any American sedan, compact, coupe, etc. The only American cars I ever liked are the Corvette (old ones), Camero (also the old ones) and the GTO. Just something about them...

My favorite car of all time though has to be the one and only Vector. Got to be one of the sweetest vehicles ever made...

You may have noticed a certian pattern. I can't stand most American cars. Why ?? Becasue they are not built to last. If it wasn't for the big three we would probably have a better car on the road, one that got great gas mileage and better for the enviroment. American companies only care about the almighty dollar. They design cars and trucks to last about 3 years or 100,000 miles (if you are lucky). Then they break down and fall apart and you have to go buy another one...

If you buy an American vehicle from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, etc you are getting screwed. You also don't have a clue when it comes to quality....

I want to get a sticker made up that says "If you own a Ford you shouldn't breed" Or Chevy, or Dodge, you get the point...

Well, that's my 2 cents, flame suit on...

I like a car if all its components fit together. Means I have to like the design and the solution the creators found to make the car likeable (including every screw):bandit:

It's too bad that many car makers and designers don't quite get it right on a car design. But it is tough to make a design work around the mechanicals and vice-versa.

A car or truck is almost like a piece of art. The lines should flow and move together forming a pleasing outline.

There are many examples of well-designed and pleasing vehicles out there.
Porsche has always tried to deliver an almost art on 4-wheels vehicle.
Ferrari also...
Jaguar, for the British was very good at a good looking and yet powerful looking automobile.

The US has many examples of great automobiles but they go into a different light. The 50's started to bring larger and more luxerious vehicles. By the early 70's almost every car had grown in size and weight. It took another 10+ years before the cars started to downsize and designs began to flow and move together. No more hard square shapes! The evolution of the Corvette, Mustang, Camero and thunderbird are a few examples.

Don't knock the Asain vehicles too much! Look up some of their vehicles and you'll find that the more expensive models were right up there in performance, shape and aggresive styling. But only a handful.

1970 AMC AMX
1965-67 Chevy Corvette
1970-74 Barracuda/Challenger, low & wide
Any Aston Martin with a V8
Most of the Ferrari models say, "Hang on!"
Porsche for their smooth rounded bodies are just plain great.
The early Jag XKE with the long slooping nose and large headlight covers
The higher end Lotus's with the wedge shapes along with Lambo's just look mean and can back it up
The early years of the Shelby Cobra's (AC's) with the 289 engine. Nothing wrong with the 427 model either but I like the cleaner lines of the 289 models.

I like all Audis good styling well designed interiors.
I like all porsches Very sporty styles with good interiors not fond of the 1 crappy little cheap Porsche that came to united states.
I like all BMW agressive styling with very well suited interiors.
Oh ferraris wet dreams
Same goes for Lambos
Also Aston Martins
Just about any European Vehicle is sweet & designed well exterior & interior.
American:
Mustang Saleen, Roush, Shelby, Steeda.
Thunderbird early years.
Camaro's early years.
Fire Birds know & early 50's 60's.
Cudas, Shelby's, GTO's, Judge's, Mach1 & old classics.
There was something about them.
I like the Vipers exterior styling but the interior lacks inovative.

Some very good points I like every kind of vehicle except!

Yugo's what the hell were these people thinking!
Ford focus no power just a chick car or college car!
Ford festiva do I have to say more!
Any AMC car too ugly + never had any experience with them!

I can see the dislike of American vehicles to a point, I have had bad experiences with them there controls always seem bulky & clumsy the designe of the interior of some of these cars don't make sense & are of no great quaility being Chevy, Ford, Dodge even on the high end models you can always find flaws.

i think pontiac started out with the wrong foot on the aztec, but the Vibe is 1 step up. Since the Aztec is discontinued, I wonder if the Vibe will now be the Survivor prize car?

How about nissan? :flash: Do you think they don't have a clue about style? Or are they just trying to stand out? ...... Now that i think about it, they're getting a whole lot better. NX, old altimas...a lil on the homely side

Well I dislike all SUV's apart from Mercedes Gelendwagen (G-Class), BMW X5
I dislike most convertibles.
Apart from that I am pretty open-minded as far as cars go. I've driven (and owned) quite a wide range of cars and all of them (even the Lada 2109) had some advantages:smoker:

I love aggresive looking cars like the Aston Martin Vanquish the new Trans Am WS6s. The ram air hood is what makes the WS6 look so aggresive, IMO. Also, a car's stance is very important...I usually like the front end just a bit lower than the rear.
