In the middle of puttin the vortec 906 heads on my 350 I mentioned awhile ago and I put on compcam 981-16 springs on it and just got some proform 1.5 full self aligning roller rockers for it.Got a mechanic buddy helping me and kinda wonderin if these rockers will work out.I have a Lunati 480 lift cam in it and still not positive about clearance issues. My buddy says its fine and honestly this is my first real engine build, learning as I go.Any helpful advice would be appreciated.Thanx again guyz

With .480" lift, those springs are probably okay. According to Comp's chart, they're "good" to about .490". As long as you stay with the 1.5:1 rockers, lift won't exceed the springs' capabilities. They're pretty much what we (engine builders) call "Z/28 springs". They're very similar to those found in the old 302 with the solid lifter cam. We use springs like these in most stockers with a little "performance" added.

Thanx for the info Jim really appreciate it.Just been concerned with the whole spring clearance thing from the start.Wasnt sure if the "z28" springs were gonna work since I keep reading about beehive springs and machined seats and stuff. But I figured with my Lunati cam only being 480lift it wouldnt be too major a deal.I'll let everybody know how the head swap turns out hopefully in a few days.Thanx again

I see this thread is a little almost a month old now but maybe he has got his engine together yet. stock vortech heads generally only allow .420-.430 of valve lift without being modifide.

Here's a good vortech's link from Hot ROD magazine:

Well finally got my vortec heads on the 350 with the rpm intake and 650 double pumper carb.Noticable difference in power, much better but wondering if its getting too hot now cuz once in awhile after driving for a little bit if I park it and then try to restart it it doesnt want to.I have an aluminum radiator and was considering getting an electric fan as maybe its running too hot now.Any advice appreciated.Thanx again
