I own a 2000 Xterra SE 4WD. While pulling a 600 lb motorcycle on an average size trailor, my instrumentation lights on my dashboard (they light up the tach, speedo, fuel, and temp), flickered twice then went out. Also the tone sound that you here when you leave your lights on and open the door does not work. Every other electrical device works fine. I've checked all fuses. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Are you "sure" you checked all your fuses? Some people forget that there is another block in the engine bay.

Oh, and please don't double or triple post your questions in other areas of this board. It's bad form on message boards, and also dillutes the replies to your problem that you want to get fixed.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sorry about triple posting. Wasn't sure were I should put my question. Checked all fuses both inside my X and under the hood. No luck. The owners manual wasn't very helpful. The local dealership said to check the wires that were tapped in to my electrical system for the hitch, the ones that connect to the trailor lights. Even if the trailor lights are working, the dealership said another wire might have come lose. What do you guys think?

this is going to sound crazy, but do you have your stock cd/stereo in or have you changed that recently also? if so your dimmer wire is hooked up to the radio and if you purchase a new stereo and the wire isn't hooked back up (cutting the wires instead of using a connector) all dash lights will be off. if not this than it sounds like an open connection somewhere, your dash lights are hooked in series with your parking lights front and rear, are they off as well? if so i have heard of people having a grounding problem in the tail lights which would cause the lights not to work, why the chime isn't working i have no clue, unless it isn't detecting any current running through the wires and itself is cutoff from this series

Thanks for all the replies. I fixed it this weekend. Noticed that as well as my dash lights the parking lights didn't work. Looked in the fuse panel under the hood at the tail light fuse. The fuse was bad, however I know why I didn't notice it on the first inspection. The fuse didn't burn through right in the middle. It looks like it burned through on one of the edges. To the visiable eye the fuse looks good, but does not pass a test with a volt meter.

Good point; I'll have to remember to pick up some extra fuses for swap-testing.
