tinted windows

i have a 1984 porsche 944 and i want to get it tinted but the law in maine is 30% so do i have to do it only 30% even though it is 25 years old or can i do it more?

Nate , you can roll the dice but don't get mad if the local PD doesn't see it your way .

yeah i know what you mean but i want it so the PD doesnt say anything if they do i will be safe. do you know if there is a law that i can tint it more becuse it is more than 25 years old. i know that i can have it realy lound and because it is more than 25 years old they cant say anything. so i was thinking if there is a law like that.

If the law says 30% is the maximum , then that's the law ! It might depend on the particular officer that pulls you over . He might give you a break , might not ! The 25 year old age of the vehicle applies to it's classification ( such as being an antique ) but I don't think it gives you a break on loudness or tinting , I might be wrong ? Good luck !

yeah i think than i will have to do it 30%. do you know much about painting cars? its white right now and it is in great but i want to apint it. what do i need to do it my self? how much would it cost if i had someone do it for me?

If you change the color it'll depreciate the vehicles value. If you do go ahead and paint it you'll end up spending more than the new look is worth just to get it to look correct. Even then the vin wont match the color and you'll have lost money. The thing is you can get away with changing the color on some old cars, like say a Chevette or a Pinto as no one really collects them, but when it comes to Porsche you won't come out ahead.

ok so the paint is mint right now. will i loss money if i get some one to put some racing stripes on my porsche?
or should i keep it how it is cuz i want to have it in mint shape.
if i tint the windows will i lose money?

If the paint is mint , I wouldn't touch ! Added stripes would take it out of the " original " category and any future buyers might or might not like the addition and the Porsche " Purist " would burn you at the stake " for doing it . As for window tinting , I doubt that would hurt the value as it is easily removed .

They do sell vinyl that can be machine cut to any shape or configuration you could ever possibly want or need. If you want to accent the outside of your car then give it a look. That way you could remove it later without damaging the paint if you need to.

ok so i not going to paint it becuse i want to keep it mint. i might tint the windows tho.. do you have any ideas i could do on my porsche inside or outside.

That all depends on what you like. The one thing I can tell you is don't do anything you cant undo later, like drilling holes for whatever reason, putting in screws that will leave visible holes when whatever they were used to mount is removed (amps and such). You can however do things like upgrade suspension parts, put on engine performance parts etc. Just save the old parts so you can later undo whatever you do if you need to. Beyond that you need to research whats available from the aftermarket and decide what you like. If we were talking about a Mustang, Camaro or any other mass produced see them everywhere car, I'd say do whatever you want and have fun. But we're talking about essentially a collector "supercar" that if kept properly will only appreciate in value due to the fact there will be fewer and fewer of them on the road every year and people still want them. Unless you're a millionaire these aren't the type of cars you get to cutup and play with like a toy.

also do you guys know much about passager side doors on a 1999 honda accord
because my door only on the outside will not open and i see that the wire has gone off so what do i do to fix that? do i have to take the door off?(how do i do that any easy ways?) do i have to buy any parts to fix my door.

I'd start another thread for the door problem. That way you'll get more exposure for the problem than you would with an off topic question buried in another thread.

i'd start by taking off the interior door panels and following the lines and seeing where its going wrong.
