Charging problem

I have a '96 3litre pushrod sedan that is not charging. I have bought and installed a new alternator, checked all the grounds, checked the 30amp alt fuse, load tested the batery, checked all related under hood conections, it has a new belt. The battery light will flicker and then stay on, at which point the car will run untill the battery is drained. The new alternator has a warrenty, but before I return it to the shop is there anything that I may have missed ? I have a Chilton manual and the charging circuit looks pretty basic, there does not seem to be much else to check.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!
Have you tried a multimeter on the battery to see if the alternator is attempting to charge, or just going off of the dash light? When the vehicle stalls, are you able to restart it or do you need to get out the charger/jumper cables?

I have used the multimeter and the voltage does not change at all. If the voltage drops to a certain level the engine dies and I have to charge the battery to get it going again, or let it sit for a day and the battery will recover just enough to start it up. I have also used a subsitute battery to see if there is an internal problem with mine but it still did not show any charge with the volt meter.

As I have tested everything I can with a volt/ohm meter, this evening I am going to put my new alternator on my wife's Taurus to see if it charges on that. Then I will know for sure if I have bought a dud unit, if it does work then I have a problem somewhere in my car wiring.
