engine locked up

So, I'm driving along in my little 93 sentra and I began hearing clicking noises. The more i accelerated, the louder it got. So i slowed down cause I was on the highway. Then the car felt as if it had lost power, sounded like it was missing out, and then died. I tried to start it but it started roughly, seemed to miss but ran. I was even able to drive it a very short distance, (which was probably bad for it.) Again it died after a few seconds of driving. I was able to coast it off the next exit to a gas station where I discovered the engine to be locked up. I can hear the starter kicking in and the lights and all electrical work so I rule out the battery, but it sounds as if the engine it stuck. Now I don't know if this had anything to do with it but about a week ago, i started it and it was missing out. I turned the car off and then back on and it was fine. What causes an engine to lock up? Could it be something else? I don't think its the transmission. I'm having bad luck with cars right now.

This is only speculation but it sounds like you have either an electronic ignition problem or a mechanical problem with the engine.
When you say that you hear the starter clicking, is the engine trying to turn over? Or is there no sound from the engine at all?
What it sounds like to me is that you probably have broken something in the engine that caused it to sieze.

I hear the starter solenoid popping out and it really sounds like its trying to turn but i think whatever is locked up in the engine is to tight for the starter to turn the engine. There is a sound from the engine, like everything is trying to move but is stuck. I didn't think an electronic ignition problem could cause the car to die, however, i have much to learn with cars so i must keep that idea open as well. I dont know what that clicking could have been. Maybe a rod shaking loose? A blew an engine before and somehow, a rod was shoved through the block. It had one hole in the back and two in the front. This one doesn't appear to have any holes so whatever it is is locking the engine up.
