Hello,

I have a 2002 grand prix gtp. A couple of days ago I replaced the window regulator and motor for both of my front doors. It was easier than I thought thanks to this forum. Both motors were up and running. That day I didn't have time to put the door trim panels back on. Overnight it rained really hard and in the morning I notice water all over my newly installed regulators and motors. The interior space of the door also had water. I know that there are two drain holes on each door at the bottom, but it made me wonder if this is how my original motors died.

I simulated rain by pouring water on the outside of the window onto the sealing strip-Window Belt Outer and noticed that water was running right down along the glass to the interior of the door. I've read about using silicone grease to extend the life of these weatherstrips, but I was wondering if anyone has thad his problem in the past and if silicone grease will stop the leak. Otherwise, I just may have to pony up and go to the dealer for replacement parts. Thanks for the help.

I thought I read in the owners manual what can be used on weatherstripping. If I remember right it recommended GM die-electric grease. But I could be wrong.

You could also find the door drains and make sure they arent all plugged up.

The felt that makes contact with the glass should only be cleaned, no lube there. The strips can be lubed with silicone spray or something similar. The windows aren't supposed to seal 100% to the internals of the door, just to the interior of the vehicle. All of the stuff inside the door is designed to handle a certain amount of water so don't worry too much.
