I decided to go turbo on my b16 civic.
What sites have good complete custom turbo kits for cheap???

the cheapest kit is probably a Greddy kit just look in a superstreet magazine or any other sport compact magazine look at the ads goto the sites and look for the best price and call around to local shops for prices to. Your best bet is going with a local shop so u can deal with somebody upfront in case u have trouble is the kit you baught and just figure the tax as shipping and it will come out about the same.

the greddy is not the cheapest kit. you can put togethr your own kit from the same parts the greddy kit has for much less. if you want a list of what you need ill be glad to help. you can go on ebay and find almost all the parts youll need for this setup. it will work just as good if not better then the greddy kit

wow you guys really want to know how to run a custom turbo then. okay ill start with a list.

turbo
manifold
downpipe
3" exhaust(not required but strongly recommended)
custom tubing
oil line
blow off valve
external wastegate(the turbo should have an internal one but for high boost it must be external)
bigger injectors(depends on the boost you run)
bigger fuel pump(a 210 should be fine)
intercooler(again, not necessary but strongly recommended)
new spark plugs
boost controller
piggyback system or stand alone engine management(necessary after about 9 psi)

that should get you a very well equiped turbo setup that is only missing new pistons and rods to run high boost. but no turbo kits come with those so anyways. this should be much cheaper then an actual kit if you know where to shop. and a lot of them dont have to be bought right away. you can buy the main components first then add on to make it better as time goes on.

i think thats about it but if i think about anything i missed ill post it. any other questions???

not sure what kit is cheapest, i know the Greddy kit is pretty cheap, but thats non-intercooled. toss an intercooler on it and your up near the cost of a drag kit. the two kits come with different turbos so youll hae to see whats best for you. like said above, id say go through a shop. if your in good with anyone there, they might hook you up, and be a backup if anything is wrong/missing from the kit.

I know turbo theory pretty good, but I'm not quite a master of the Honda electrical system yet, so my question is, how do you deal with the MAP sensor, is that what a Missing Link Check Sensor is for?

hey Luti i was lookin at ur mods list u got a zex camshaft for ur 98 civic with a d series? if so i thought that came was on back order till august or did u buy the one for the z6 i think they made one for or do u have a swap?

It's for a Z6, I advanced the cam 5 degrees so it's at the relative 0 position for my engine. The Z6 and Y8 cmas are the same lift and duration, but they are cut at a different angle in relation to the key (ie: 0 degrees).

*EDIT: the cam is amazing, it gives so much low end and mid range, and the top end is unfucking believable.

man i hope i just didnt type up that whole list for nothing. you guys started on the greddy kit again. well anyways i think if you get a piggyback system for your ecu it should take care of the map sensor but im not terribly sure either. and yes i do think thats what the missing link is for.

Most peeps just end up going to pet store, that handles aquiriaums(sp), and getting check valves from there. Something like two or three, are until it quits throwing MAP codes.

I have also ran across the Missing Link has some probs... hehehe

It's better to work extra hours at work and get the money for a GReddy, instead of whastig time piecing together a bungee cord turbo system that won't really work. Unless you live in a junkyard and get the scrap parts for free.

it is really not worth the extra money, at least i dont think so. all it takes is a little research and you can put together a very good and capable turbo kit, not a bungee cord one. dont encourage people to always take the easy way out. that will just cost them more money and plus for some reason people really dont like to do their own research anymore, they just buy "kits" that do everything for them.

piece together your own kit and save yourself some money for other upgrades. if you need help i will be willing to help and im sure others will also.

Well that sounds allright, its just that when I think of home made turbos I think back to this guy I saw once welding cooking pots together to make a manifold and weirdstuff like that:cool:

putting a turbo kit together sounds like lots of fun and all that and cheaper but think about it that money that u pay more for a kit is also backed with im not sure if they have manufacturer warrantys or n e thing but if they are u get that much as well as customer service say u get a bad fcu or blue box all u have to do is send it into greddy and they'll fix it. just my 2 cents but peicing on together sounds like fun.

try getting anything out of those bastard big companies. you wont get very far. plus, what better warranty could you ask for when you have the guarantee of your own research? personally i dont trust anything on my car unless ive done my own research on it and found out if i liked it or not. those companies could tell you an exhaust tip adds 50 hp if they want. the question is, who out there is smart enough not to trust them.
