Storing a 2005

I have inherited a 2005 LeSabre, but will be storing it for about a year until my current lease is up. The vehicle has not been used much (35K) and already the right front brake rotor is rusted. I drove it around and applied the brakes several times and all other disks cleaned up nicely, except the right front. I assume the caliper piston may be rusted/seized. Other than that the car is like new.

Anyway, that problem I can easily repair, however to prevent other problems arising from about a year storage in my garage, what is suggested for preventative maintenance? I plan to start it up monthly and take it for a 15 mile spin, run all electric motors, windows, roof, wipers, AC, etc. Not sure if 15 miles will keep the battery charged, but I have a charger. So will a monthly spin, be sufficient to keep everything lubed and in working order...including keeping the rotors rust free once I fix them?

the key is to get the car up to temp to get rid of moister in the exhuast and the oil change the oil put some stabil in the fuel and run it to get it in the system because the shelf life of gas is bad these days air the tiresbut what you want to do is fine i think you can pick up a trickel charger that bolt under the hood from sears very small unit self regulating

I would change the oil before putting it in storage, and then again once you are done storing it.Having dirty oil in the crankcase isn't good when a vehicle sits around for long periods of time. Byproducts of combustion in the oil form acids and other harmful substances which can cause damage to internal engine components. When you plan on taking the vehicle out for it's monthly exercise, make sure the engine gets up to operating temperature and stays there for awhile. This prevents a buildup of combustion byproducts as they will get burned up by a warm engine. This is a problem in colder regions where a vehicle may be started and run for a short time, never getting up to full operating temperature, such as frequent short trips.
Also make sure rodents can't get into the vehicle and cause issues by their eating or nesting habits.

In addition to the suggestions already mentioned, keep the gas tank full as possible to help reduce condensation. I have several 'stored vehicles' and use a battery maintainer and car cover on all of them to keep the dust off of the exterior.

Thanks HotZ28. Do you think a car cover would be necessary if the vehicle is stored in my personal garage? The only time the stored vehicle would be exposed to the outside would be when I drove my other vehicle in or out. Otherwise the doors are generally closed and I do not do any work out there that would produce dust. Thanks.
