Hey all:

Just purchased a 02 Grand Marquis GS. Since I am not the original owner, I don't know the factory code for the key pad on the outside of the drivers door. Is there a generic code or can I find mine inside or outside my car. My car did not come with an owners manual. The dealership wants to charge me $75 to find it. Anything else I can do? Thanks.

Look in the trunk. Either a decal on the inside of the trunk lid or on one of the hinges. Unless someone removed it those are the places where it can be found. MB

Looked on the inside of the trunk this morning and found nothing. I also checked the doors and under the hood. Is there a generic code that these cars come programmed with from the factory, or are they all different. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, I am looking for a five digit code correct? Thanks again.

Should be a 5-Digit Code. No "credit-card" tag in the Glove Box? Could be a label there but it usually is in the trunk. Perhaps someone removed it for security purposes. Can you get it from the last owner? Do you have the Owners Manual? If no to all these questions try a "search" on this Forum or a Google Search for the issue. Good Luck. Can't think of anything else.....MB

You could pull the Panels in the Trunk or the Panel to the left of the Driver's seat position. Usually a White Label with Black Lettering. Double check the Glove Box or right behind it. MB

Nope, no manual or white piece of paper. Still not wanting to pay for the dealership to run for codes.

If you have checked EVERY place I mentioned and still no luck then I am out of suggestions.....MB

P.S. Try doing a GOOGLE search on the issue and see if you turn up anything.

From the Owners Manual-------------

The factory-set code is located:
² on the owner’s wallet card in the glove compartment
² taped to the computer module
² or at your dealer

If you really want to figure out the code, I believe I know how.

I think there are 1,280 possible codes. I'm assuming that when you enter the code, it will not involve pressing the same button twice in a row.

Lets call the buttons A, B, C, D, E instead of 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/0.

The list of codes starts with:
A B A B A
A B A B C
A B A B D
A B A B E

If you can try 10 codes per minute, it will take less than 2 hours to find yours. If you like, I can send you a spreadsheet of all the possible codes, and you can follow it.

Hey,

If you could send them on a spreadsheet as an attachment that would be awesome. Might have time this weekend to burn a couple of hours. Thanks for the help.
