P0700 and P0740

the first is a trans control system malfunction and the 2nd code(0740) is tcc circuit malfunction- but what exactly do these codes mean? and the o2 sensor needs to be replaced, it said bank 1 sensor 1- does that mean the one BEFORE the catayltic converter? thanks

P0700 is a catch all code telling you there is something wrong in the transmission"s electronic controls. Many times that is the only code that pops up making it difficult to determine what's up. Thank your lucky stars you have a second, much more revealing code. The P0740 is telling you there is a problem in the circuit that controls the torque converter in the transmission. The cause could be anything from the transmission control module to wiring to a bad torque converter solenoid. Could be as simple as a loose or corroded connection or broken wire.

Yes that's the O2 sensor forward of the cat converter.

Something you need to type into about every thread you make is the engine size and transmission type. Whatchya got?

thanks, i'll take it to a transmission shop. and sorry, i forgot about the make and model. it's a 2001 chrysler town & country lxi, 3.8L v6, all wheel drive, 4-speed auto with od.

I had the same issue with a 2005 Town & Country 3.8L, 112,000 miles. It would set a p0740 trans code and a p0700 engine code as soon as the vehicle hit 60 mph.

Verified repair. I replaced the torque converted. My transmission expert friend told me look for slight "bluing" at the center of the bolt side of the TC. He recommended checking two tcc system seals by pulling the front pump. With the transmission pulled, I took it to his shop. He charged me $130 for a new torque, and another $50 to pull the front pump and check the two seals, which in my case were good, otherwise they would have cost about $15, with no additional labor.

I re-installed trans, filled with ATF+4, cleared "battery disconnected" code from removing battery during R&I, text drove 4 run cyles to 60 mph, and all is better!!

Total cost of repair less than $200 and about 7 hours in my shop on the hoist to R&I tranny.

He stated that if there is only a p0740 and p0700 code, 95% of the time it's just a torque or torque input seals.

One of those other 5% was a guy who found the the solenoid pack connector loose. He was one lucky soul. Thanks for posting your experience. No doubt someone will use it.
