Need some advice concerning the CPI. I replaced the fuel regulator after seeing an obvious leak. After replacing it I removed the maxi injector thinking I might be able to pick up a new one however they are only sold with the spider kit. I replaced it into the lower intake and proceeded to check the spider lines at each poppet, found no leaks into the intake. Checked poppets for proper spray patterns all were in fair condition and sprayed for roughly three to four seconds with key in on position. Now I have installed all components back and should be ready to run with new regulator. Upon trial, engine cranked for about fifteen seconds and loaded all cylinders with so much gas it wet my plugs too much to fire and the starter eventually could not crank there was so much pressure built up inside. Pulled plugs and cranked engine, gas came out of every cylinder so I let it dry out for a half day and returned to install the plugs and try again. Engine cranked and about ten seconds into cranking hit and ran for about three seconds before eventually sputtering out and reloading all my cylinders again with fuel. My concern is that the maxi injector is not controlling the amount of fuel entering the cylinders. I am also curious to the fact that with the injector unplugged and any one of the poppets removed they will still disperse the three to four seconds of fuel spray with key on and no crank. How is this possible without the injector? They are not stuck open as I have seen this to be a common problem and I do not have any leaky lines and the regulator is no longer leaking. Any body got any suggestions? Haven't done a fuel pressure test but I can tell you fuel delivery is not my problem as I have too much making it into the cylinders. I also tried the old regulator still have the same amount of fuel being sprayed with key simply in on position. I have checked the electrical and everything fires as it should in the proper order. I've read about a thousand posts here and no one I have found had this problem with the cpi spider injection. Any ideas what happened?

When the ignition is turned to the run position, battery voltage is sent to the injector. The injector remains closed until the PCM receives a pulse signal indicating the engine is cranking or is running. When the PCM receives the pulse, the injector driver in the PCM supplies ground to the injector and it opens. If your injector is staying open while the ignition is in the run position, the ground wire to the injector is shorted to ground somewhere between the PCM and the injector. Check the wire harness carefully, probably got pinched in the plenum.

Thanks for the help. I should have known the poppets shouldn't have opened with the key simply in the on position. I went back into the plenum and removed the injector and low and behold I had made a rookie mistake and failed to place the small six ring gasket properly back before I put the injector back in and it was holding the injector up and allowing the fuel pressure to open the poppets. Now I need to change the oil and let it clear its throat a little and all should be good. Thanks again.
