ive got a 1998 cavalier that is wrecked and i am going to fix but it has an automatic tranny in it. the guy im getting it off of is giving me all the parts to fix it and the car for free. wat do i need to do a total engine swap from a 2.2 w. auto tranny to a 2.2 with manual tranny. he has several engines in great shape with manuals on them up there. ive done engine swaps b 4 but not engine and tranny but my dad says not to do it but i want to and he isnt doin it so i dont think he should complain. anyway i will rebuild the engine that i put in it. cam, crank, pistons, valves, etc.

The engines are the same, just need to remove the flexplate and install a flywheel (probably need longer bolts for the flywheel, and use loctite on them). You need to weld a bracket on the frame that isn't there for the A/T and cut off the one that is there. And then of course you need every part for shifting (clutch pedal assembly, master cylinder, shifter, cables, etc.) I believe you also need the center console from an M/T car to make it look right.

I'd listen to your dad on this one, way too much work for a car with 115 HP.

ok i dont think im going to do the converison now cause i found a turbo kit for an automatic transmission. where can i get a stronger crank and lower compression pistons for a 2.2

No idea... but when they say the turbo is for an A/T, it only means the pipes will clear an A/T, it should still work for an M/T. Also, the 2.2 OHV is not worth putting a turbo on. It's an old design truck engine, doesn't belong in a "performance" car. It would be my number one choice for reliability, but very low on the performance list.

k was goiing to try a change over on one of my parts cars, think you have to punch a hole in the firewall for the clutch cylinder too don't ya? didn't see anything there that looked like a plug.
