my wife's 2000 grand prix gt's radio is locked cuz her dad took a main fuse out to check why ABS and low traction light always came on. We found all the codes we need to reset it but it says you have to wait 1hr till you can put em in and the igition has to be on. Does this mean i got run the car for an hour? seems stupid to me

That doesn't sound right. All you need is the radio Theftlock code if you can remember it. If you do not have the code then that is a different story.

There is a way to unlock GM delco radios used in 03 and earlier GP's.
I think the information is 'protected' per say, so I dont think Bob and Rich would like me (or anyone) to post it.
If you run a google search, I'm sure you will find it. Just type in "delco theftlock unlock" or something.

If u possess the unlock code, procedure is as follows for inputting unless too many attempts have been made, at which point display will read 'InOp'. Key on engine off, enter code using 'HR' and 'MIN' buttons then press 'AM/FM' button, display reads 'SEC'. If u wish to disable the theftlock, repeat the proceedure at this time.

I think this is right. It won't even let you enter the codes for an hour. Just leave the key on in the driveway. The engine does not need to be running.

never understood that....
do people actually steal stock stereos?
when this happened to me and my cavalier, i called the dealership and they gladly walked me through the whole procedure on the phone, and i specifically remember NOT knowing my code

I thought if you failed to enter the correct code 8 times then the radio goes into INOP mode and then you may have to wait an hour at which time it should go into LOC mode. Did the OP even enter the codes found or just assumed he'd have to wait an hour without reading the fine print? :screwy:
If it seems stupid then it is stupid. :2cents:
