IAT Sensor

I have a 1995 Geo Prizm. Recently the check engine light came on. I checked the diagnostic code and it came up as code 24 which is an Intake Air Temperature Sensor. I bought a new one and put it in. I then tried to cancel the check engine light. The check engine light will not reset no matter what I do. Maybe the sensor wasn't bad. How can I fix this problem?
