stuck in 2nd gear

i have a 92 eclipse that is stuck in 2nd gear does any one know what the problem is

The only problem I see so far is a lack of details... Is it an auto or 5-speed? FWD or AWD? Did it get stuck in the gear while going down the road or you hopped in it and went to go and it was stuck in gear already? Any noises prior to this happening or anything specific that happened when it got stuck? Details, we need to know more about the situation to even begin to pinpoint what the problem could possibly be...

its a automatic and when i was driving it down the road if was fine and all the sudden it kicked down to 2nd gear so ever since then you can drive it but you only have reverse and 2nd gear and it is fwd

Ok, first thing I would try is changing the tranny filter and fluid. This is something cheap that should be done regularly with automatics anyways. Sometimes ya get lucky and it corrects a problem like this one. If not then I would consider there being a problem with the TCU or the actual tranny itself.
