oil changing problem

I had to change my oil in my car for the first time last weekend. I've only had it long enough for the oil to be changed twice and the first time i took it to Jiffy Lube. I know its cheaper, better, and blah blah blah by doing it yourself. But at that time i hadn't done anything to my car and wasn't really thinking about it. Anyways, my cars been lowered and its almost impossible to get under. I used that crappy jack that comes with my civic to lift up the front drivers side of the car so i could get under the car. Out of luck, i found a wrench that perfectly fit the bolt and i tried turning it left to loosen and it didn't budge. I thought i was turning it the wrong way and checked again to see if i wasn't trying to tighten it. I wasn't. I was turning it left. I looked at it straight on and turned it left. Nothing. I know i couldn't get great leverage cause of the limited room, but i ain't weak either so something should've moved. My guess is that Jiffy Lube put it on so tight that only they can get it off with an electric wrench or something. So do i have to go back to them or some other place? is there anything i can do to loosen the bolt and the washer under it?

oh, and what's up with the oil filter being almost non-accessible from above the engine?!

are you talkin about the bolt that goes into the oil pan? you should deff be able to get it off by hand.....take it to jiffly lube this time if you really cant get it off.....even if it was tight it should come off with alittle muscle

that's what i'm saying. I previously had an old SUV and being old and rusted it still came off by hand. I don't get it. And i know i have the right place cause it clearly say "Engine Oil". and there's only one bolt going into the pan like every other car has and this is stupid. Anything i can do to loosen it?

Use a breaker bar, and liquid wrench. If it strips, get a 'tap and die' set, they are useful anyway. If it doesn't come off, bash it with a 6 pound hammer, it should come off then.

Spend twenty bucks on a good floor jack and use a breaker bar. I have yet to come across a bolt that I counldn't get with a breaker bar. It's physics, the longer the bar, the more pressure on the bolt.

i got my wheel spindle off with my breaker. the one thing i couldnt break with my breaker or a 6 foot pipe on it was my crank bolt. but my 1/2" drive and i turned up my compressor little bit to like 120 and bam right off

It's like this, after I was off my free oil change perid with my car after I got it a little over 3 years ago, when I changed my oil on it for the first time, the oil dran bolt was on VERY tight. That's the work of air tools for you. I used a breaker bar I have, and that was able to loosen it up. Now when I change my oil, I'm able to loosen it much better since I'm the one tightening it up each time. ;) The way I change my oil is I got one of those cheap floor jack/jack stand combos from Kragen, and I raise each front side of my car with the jack, then stick a stand under each front jack point. That gives me just enough room to get up under the car and do the work I need to. For the filter, you just gotta reach your hand up and around the oil pan, untwist it, and carefully bring it down, so you can put the new one on. I have it down to a science, I can change mine in about a half hour. :)
