so here's my enfuriating story.
even though it's April 3rd and technically spring, it has been freezing rain and hailing all day today around here and hasn't been any warmer then about -3 C. everything is coated in a centimetre of ice. so i'm driving home at about 2:00 this afternoon. i realize i left something at school, so i turn into a sidestreet to pull a u-ey. as i'm doing this, i spot what i thought i had left at school (a binder) sitting in the front seat. so i jerk the wheel back the way i was going, aborting the u-turn. as i do this, my back wheels hit black ice and gravel. i lost the ass-end of the car, and hit the curb sideways at about 50km/h. there's a sickening crunch and the car feels lower. i get out to discover the rear tire has exploded and the rim is badly bent from impact with the curb. i pray to god the suspension isn't damaged (i have yet to check). i push the car off of the grass and quietly go about getting the spare out and jacking the car up to change the tire, when all of a sudden i hear a siren. it sounds close. i look up and a cop car, sirens, lights and all, pulls up beside me. wondering how they found out, i see the lady in the house across the street is standing in her window. i smile, thinking there are still some good people in this world. i fill out an accident report and give all my info to the cops, and a tow truck shows up and hooks up the car. i sit in the truck while the cops finish up the paper work. about 10 minutes later, the cops finally comes over to me, and slaps me with a $325 "careless driving" ticket. apparently the lady who called in complained that i was a "rowdy teenager" that was doing e-brake skids in her subdivision. so now i have to go to court to fight this fucking ticket because all i did was slide out on some ice in front of some bitch's house. what the hell has gotten into people these days?? is there no decency???

i just put Toronto on my profile because nobody knows where the hell my town is. i actually live in a small town about a half an hour north of Toronto called Caledon. small town of about 30k, and it was an OPP officer gave me the ticket.
Jay - officer's took down a statement from me. i told them the entire story bit by bit, showed them the gravel and ice that i hit etc. they didn't even talk to the lady. i'm fighting the ticket, but i'm still mad...

Posts like this piss me off in two ways.
One. "Cops are Idiots" Such a huge generalisation pisses me off to no end. Just because one cop is a fucking moron who doesn't deserve the uniform suddenly they're all bad. No offence Brian, but that's probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen you say.
Two. The whole situation. You could have been badly injured if things had gone worse from slipping on that ice, and that old bitch decides that you're driving carelessly. Fight the ticket.
On the bright side though, good to hear that you're okay. Hopefully the car is too.
Oh,and Amish_kid, grow the fuck up.

Dave - after originally posting this, i realized my error with the title but unfortunatley us regular members don't have the powers to change the title of threads that have already been posted. i realize that the title is wrong and i shouldn't have put it, so i apologize to you and anyone else who may be offended by it, because i was mad when i wrote this and don't mean what the title says. it wasn't even the cop's fault, it was the old bitch who called them. the cop was just doing his job. if i could change the title, i would.

so do i! but this ticket will be so easy to fight in court, it shouldn't be an issue.
a)there's nothing to point to me being a careless driver.
b)since it was so icey in the Greater Toronto Area today, the police had to deal with literally thousands of car accidents. my theory is maybe they just go around handing out the mandatory tickets, just to do their job, but then don't fight them in court.
c)the rate of police officers that show up in Traffic Court in Ontario is slim to nil.
i should be fine. we have to send a lawyer in to court to set a date for trial, so i'll keep everyone updated on the status.

that happened to my brother a few years back.
There is this 90 degree turn (its more of a corner than a turn) and the bottom of a fairly steep hill, and usually you have to go about 30kph to get around the corner.
Well my brother was coming home on a route that took him around this corner. As it so happens, this old guy who lives on a house overlooking the corner saw him 'speed around the corner at 80mph'. And right after that corner, there is another easier blind turn to the left into a forested patch.
So anyways, the guy calls the cops and tells them what my brother was apparently doing. So that evening the cops show up at the door and ask my brother about what happened. They were basicly just stayed and took notes as a formality, because once they found out which turn it was they knew the old guys story was BS for a few reasons.
1. My brother was driving a stock 94 toyota tercel, a car which couldn't do that kind of turn at that speed withouta professional driver. (or probably not at all)
2. If he was going 80kph, he would have been around the second corner before the guy could read his license plate.
The cop was real nice about it and didn't give my bro a ticket or a warning or anything. Then on his way out he tripped and fell down the front steps :p

well, checked out the car today, no damage to the underside. in fact, there wasn't any damage done to the tire either, and what damage there was on the rim was easily repaired. $25 to have the tire put on and the rim straightened, and that's all! now i've just gotta deal with the fucking ticket... sending a lawyer in on Monday.

UPDATE.
talked to one of those Traffic Ticket Specialist agencies today. it's going to cost me 1000 fucking dollars just to pay for the legal services. and with that, there's no guarantee that i'll win, that money just pays for the lawyer to come and help me. so i'm ALREADY out $1025, and if i lose this case, here's what else will happen:
1)$325 fine
2)6 demerit points, meaning my license is suspended for 6 months.
3)my insurance rates will quadruple from $700 a year to $3000 a year for 5 years.
if i lose, this brings the grand total over 5 years to $16,350. $16,350 because i hit some ice while driving normally, hit a curb, had some bitch call police and had a fuck-head cop deal with me. if i lose this case, i'm fucked for life.

I normally don't support violence... but...
If I were in your shoes, i'd just pay the fine, accept the demerit points, get a bike, then go burn her house down, make friends with ppl who have connections with cops, find out which thick-headed cop gave you the ticket, then go sledgehammer his nuts.

well, i have a pretty good chance of having the ticket dismissed. but no matter how confident you are about something, there's always a small portion of you that says "well maybe this could go wrong...".
i don't usually advocate violence either, but after today, i felt like shooting something.

Hi,
Like this old post, I got a ticket recently - "careless driving" in a single vihecle accident because of black ice.
What is the end of the result on court?
I want to know whether I should plea of bargin with prosecutor? Do I have to hire a lawyer or traffic ticket specilist?
How much chance to win?
Any body else have the experience to fight "careless driving" ?
I will post later of the detail of my accident.
Thanks,
Eric

Eric, this post is nearly a year old. I would suggest not digging up old threads because you like them, especially this old. You can however, start a NEW thread on the topic at hand in the correct forum, whether it be here in stress release or in COT or in any of the other forums. Please don't dig up an old threads again.
